REPORT:

We had a great day with nearly perfect weather for playing soccer.

16 schools competed, coming as far as Southern Highlands CS to the south and Charlton CS, first time involved, to the north. The standard of football is improving every year and the gap between the “big” schools and the smaller schools is closing.

The semi- finalists were Covenant CS, Northern Beaches CS, Green Point CC and Mamre Anglican School.

In the local derby, Covenant defeated Northern Beaches in a very close game and Mamre overcame Green Point to progress to the Final. The final was very exciting with end to end football. Mamre scored first and looked to be in control but Covenant fought back to level the score. Mamre again took the lead only for Covenant to get another equaliser.

With the game heading for extra time and with less than a minute to go, Mamre mounted one more attack and scored a superb goal with virtually the last kick of the game. A great match played in the right spirit and a fitting climax to an excellent day.

Well done Mamre and Covenant.

A big thank you to the 4 student referees from Sutherland CS and William Carey CS for officiating on the day.

Mamre AS v's Green Point CC
