REPORT: Primary Girls State Netball Gala Day 2015

Monday 17 August was a beautiful day for the State Netball Gala Day for Primary. The sun was shining and it was the perfect temperature. 40 teams attended (from both Junior and Senior) and seemed to enjoy the day.

After the rounds, the quarter finals took place at 1:00pm. All other schools got involved in minor placings to enjoy a final game of netball before going home.

In the Junior competition, Maitland, Northern Beaches, Pacific Hills, Inaburra, Belmont, Loquat Valley, Rouse Hill and Oxford Falls had made it through to Quarter Finals. It is great to see that some of these schools are “smaller” schools.

From there, Northern Beaches, Rouse Hill, Pacific Hills and Belmont advanced to the Semi Final, with Rouse Hill and Pacific Hills making it through to the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was a quality game of netball with Pacific Hills winning the Junior Division 10-7 in quite a close match.

In the Senior competition, Green Point, Northern Beaches, St George, Rouse Hill, Oxford Falls, Carinya, Sutherland and Inaburra made it through to the quarter finals.

From there, Green Point, Sutherland, St George and Oxford Falls made it to the Semi Finals. The Semi final between Green Point and Sutherland was a tight match (12-10) with Sutherland eventually winning out to make it to the Grand Final and St George beating Oxford Falls 19-7 in their Semi Final.

Whilst the girls were exhausted, they put up a great fight in the Grand Final with only one goal in it at half time. Sutherland were too strong in the end,  defeating St George CS 17-9 and being crowned the Senior Champions

Well done to all teams for the spirit in which the games were played. The day was a success and could not have been so without the amazing umpires, coaches and teams who worked together to enjoy the game of netball and give the girls a great experience all round.

There was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day as God was glorified in the way students competed passionately, while upholding the values of fair play and sportsmanship.

REPORT: Primary Girls State Netball Gala Day 2014

Finally on 1st September we were graced with beautiful weather to complete the netball part of the Metropolitan Cup. With 2 previous attempts washed out, we were certainly all keen to have a great day.

This year was the first year the Netball for Primary was changed to a “state” gala day, meaning that any school could enter and it was not down to previous “zone” qualification. This meant that we had more teams than we have ever previously had. With 19 teams in the Junior competition and 21 teams in the Senior competition, it was going to be a full day of netball. This meant 400 students and many parents and coaches were a part of the day. The games were therefore shortened to “halves” instead of “quarters” to make the day fit in the best way possible.

All teams played extremely well and gave it their best with 8 teams advancing to quarter finals after the round matches. Semi finals took place straight after these with a great mix of schools involved (Oxford Falls, Inaburra, Rouse Hill and Northern Beaches in the Junior semi finals; Belmont, Maitland, Sutherland and Rouse Hill in the Senior Semi Final)

In the Junior competition, Rouse Hill and Inaburra advanced through to the Final. After a very tight match, Rouse Hill won the grand final by just 1 point.

In the Senior Grand Final, Rouse Hill again made it through to the final against a strong Belmont team. Players from Rouse Hill and Belmont had made it through to the CSSA and even CIS netball teams earlier in the year, so this was bound to be a strong match. After an equal score line at half time, Rouse Hill gained a lead in the second half and could not be beaten.

Congratulations to Rouse Hill Anglican College who took home a “double”, winning the Junior and Senior Netball Competition.

A huge thank you must go to all our umpires and coaches, especially to the Penrith District Netball Umpires who did an amazing job coordinating umpires throughout the day. Thank you also to all the parents who travelled the distance after having to do it more than once with wet weather cancellations.
